Carlos Vargas, OFM
1936 – 1981
Fr. Carlos Vargas, OFM, was born on June 20, 1936 in Cochabamba, Bolivia. He was received into the novitiate in 1953, professing temporary vows one year later. He made his solemn profession and was ordained in 1960.
A member of the Bolivian Custody, Fr. Carlos was one of the first to work with the Holy Name friars when the cooperative venture began in the 1970s. He died a type of service church ministry in Apolo and La Paz. Fr. Carlos studied at the Franciscan Institute in Allegany, N.Y., and at the Washington Theological Union, where he became friends with many Holy Name Province friars. He was a friendly man with wonderful musical talents.
He died on Dec. 14, 1981 in Bolivia. Fr. Carlos was 45 years old, a professed friar for 27 years and a priest for 21 years.
