1908 – 1954

Fr. Cajetan Foley, OFM, was born on June 19, 1908 in Cortland, N.Y. After high school, he entered St. Bonaventure College, Allegany, N.Y., in 1927. Two years later, he applied to enter the Province. Fr. Cajetan was received into the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., in 1929, professing temporary vows one year later. He made his solemn profession in 1933 and was ordained in 1936.

For six years, Fr. Cajetan served at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in New York City. In 1943, he transferred to St. Patrick’s Friary in Buffalo, N.Y. His final years of ministry were spent serving in the South at ministries in Asheville and Winston-Salem, N.C.

He died on Jan. 11, 1954 at St. Joseph Hospital in Asheville. Fr. Cajetan was 45 years old, a professed friar for 23 years and a priest for 17 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
