Boniface Scheibelhut, OFM

1876 – 1943
Br. Boniface Scheibelhut, OFM, was born April 7, 1876 in Oberrode, Germany. He came to America as a tertiary brother and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1901, professing temporary vows one year later. Br. Boniface made his solemn profession in 1905.
The greater part of his Franciscan life was spent at St. Stephen Friary, Croghan, N.Y., as sacristan and janitor. For the last eight years of his life, he lived at St. Bonaventure Friary and worked in the tailor shop and the laundry.
He died there on Feb. 24, 1943. Br. Boniface was 66 years old, a professed friar for 41 years.
