Fr. Bede McIntyre, OFM, was born Dec. 21, 1893 in Jersey City, N.J. After four years of study at Black Rock College, Dublin, Ireland, he studied at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and St. Bonaventure’s College, Allegany, N.Y., until, in his second year of theological studies, he entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1920. He professed temporary vows one year later, and made his solemn profession and was ordained in 1924.

Fr. Bede spent three years teaching at St. Bonaventure’s College, seven years ministering at Holy Name Church in Garfield, N.J., and nine years as a confessor at St. Francis Friary, Brookline, Mass. He died on April 11, 1944 in Garfield. Fr. Bede was 50 years old, a professed friar for 22 years and a priest for 19 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
