Bede Huston, OFM

1908 – 1979
Fr. Bede Huston, OFM, was born on Aug. 8, 1908 in Brooklyn, N.Y. After graduating from St. Francis College there, he attended St. John’s University, where he received his L.L.B. He worked for Chase National Bank. During World War II, he served as a radioman in the United States Navy.
At age 38, he entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1946. He professed temporary vows one year later, made his solemn profession in 1950 and was ordained in 1950. For 21 years, he served as a procurator in three friaries of the Province. Illness brought him to Boston, where he continued to serve as a confessor for priests and religious at St. Anthony’s Shrine.
He died on Jan. 8, 1979 at University Hospital in Boston. Fr. Bede was 70 years old, a professed friar for 31 years and a priest for 28 years.
