Antonine Klippert

1834 – 1907

Br. Antonine Klippert, OFM, was born on Oct. 13, 1834 in Fulda, Germany. He entered the Order in Fulda in 1858, professing temporary vows one year later. Br. Antonine made his solemn profession in 1859.

Expelled with his fellow friars during the Kulturkampf in 1875, his group found temporary shelter with the Capuchin friars in Switzerland. He came to the United States in 1876 and served the Custody and the Province faithfully until his death.

He died on Feb. 26, 1907. Br. Antonine was 72 years old, a professed friar for 48 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
