Anthony McGuire, OFM

1922 – 2010
Fr. Anthony McGuire, OFM, was born on Nov. 23, 1922 in Wilmington, Del., and baptized Joseph. He entered St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., in 1941 and was received into the Order at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1946. Fr. Anthony professed simple vows in 1947, made his solemn profession in 1950, and was ordained in 1952.
From 1953 to 1958, he taught at Bishop Timon High School in Buffalo, N.Y. Fr. Anthony then served as a faculty member at St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary. From 1967 to 1979, he served as parochial vicars at various ministries, including St. Bonaventure Parish, Paterson, St. Stephen of Hungary Parish in New York City, and St. Anthony Parish in Butler, N.J.
Fr. Anthony then served as associate at Our Lady’s Chapel in New Bedford, Mass., from 1979 to 1982, and pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Narrowsburg, N.Y., from 1982 to 1994. From 1994 to 2010, he lived at St. Anthony Friary as a senior associate friar. In 2010, Fr. Anthony transferred to Holy Name Friary in Ringwood, N.J.
He died on Nov. 6, 2010 at Holy Name Friary. Fr. Anthony was 87 years old, a professed friar for 63 years, and a priest for 58 years.
