Anthony Berghoff, OFM

1870 – 1922
Fr. Anthony Berghoff, OFM, was born Aug. 4, 1870 in Ruethen, Germany. He was received into the novitiate in 1887 and professed temporary vows one year later. Fr. Anthony made his solemn profession in 1891 and was ordained in 1893.
Noted for his energy in building and his successful ministry among young people, Fr. Anthony spent nine years as pastor at St. Bonaventure Parish, Paterson, N.J. He established St. Bonaventure Lyceum. While pastor at St. Anthony Parish, Butler, N.J., and St. Elizabeth Parish, Denver, he was responsible for the building growth that took place. Fr. Anthony was one of the first friars to work at St. Clare’s Parish in Clifton, N.J.
He died on April 3, 1922 in Denver. Fr. Anthony was 51 years old, a professed friar for 33 years and a priest for 28 years.
