Anselm Robinson

1910 – 1978

Fr. Anselm Robinson, OFM, was born on Sept. 29, 1910 in Jersey City, N.J. His family later moved to New York City and became members of St. Francis of Assisi Parish on West 31st Street in Manhattan. After graduating from St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., Fr. Anselm was received into the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1930. He professed temporary vows one year later, made his solemn profession in 1934 and was ordained in 1937.

For 10 years, Fr. Anselm taught theology at Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y., and served at ministries in Lenoir and Statesville, N.C. He was an assistant at St. Joseph’s Parish in Winsted, Conn., for seven years and spent his final four years of ministry at St. Anthony’s Shrine in Boston.

He died on Jan. 1, 1978 at the New England Medical Center. Fr. Anselm was 67 years old, a professed Franciscan friar for 47 years and a priest for 41 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
