1907 – 1961

Br. Anselm Kelly, OFM, was born April 22, 1907 in Salamanca, N.Y. He graduated from St. Bonaventure’s College, Allegany, N.Y., in 1929 and taught in Salamanca’s public school system. He also served as justice of the peace in Ellicottville, N.Y.

He began his studies for the priesthood after the death of his wife, Marion, in 1956. Br. Anselm was the father of two children, Joseph and Anne. He was received into the novitiate at St. Raphael Friary, Lafayette, N.J., in 1958 and professed temporary vows one year later.

He died on April 14, 1961 at Holy Name College, Washington. Br. Anselm was 53 years old, a professed friar for almost two years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
