Br. Andrew Wenning, OFM, was born on March 4, 1867 in Bienen, Germany. After three years as a tertiary brother, he was received into the Order at the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1890. He professed temporary vows one year later and made his solemn profession in 1894.

He worked faithfully for 56 years in the Paterson friary as shoemaker, sacristan and infirmarian. Br. Andrew celebrated his golden jubilee in 1941. He died on March 2, 1943 at St. Francis Hospital, Jersey City, N.J. Br. Andrew was 76 years old, a professed friar for 52 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
