Fr. Andrew Slattery, OFM, was born on April 19, 1863 in Dubuque, Iowa. After teaching as a Franciscan Brother of Brooklyn, N.Y., he entered the novitiate in 1887, professing temporary vows one year later. He made his solemn profession in 1891 and was ordained in 1893.

He devoted himself to parish work at St. Anthony Church in New York City; in Winsted, Conn., where as pastor, he built the church in 1914; and in Buffalo, N.Y., as pastor.

He died on Oct. 27, 1935 in Buffalo. Fr. Andrew was 72 years old, a professed friar for 46 years, and a priest for 42 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
