Andre-Marie Cyr, OFM

1929 – 1996
Fr. Andre-Marie Cyr, OFM, was born on Dec. 16, 1929, in Augusta, Maine. Entering the United States Air Force Medical Corps in Japan, he found friends among missionary priests who helped him follow his call to the priesthood.
He was received into the Order in at St. Raphael Friary in Lafayette, N.J., July 14, 1957, and professed temporary vows July 15, 1958. Fr. Andre made his profession of solemn vows Aug. 22, 1961, and on Feb. 22, 1964, he was ordained to the priesthood.
Assigned to the Gumma mission in Japan after ordination, he soon won the friendship of many, leading the Catholic faithful to deeper faith and non-Christians to the faith-generating waters of Baptism.
Fr. Andre died June 16, 1996, in Japan. He was 66 years old, a friar for 38 years and a priest for 32 years. His remains were interred in the friars’ plot of the Kiryu Cemetery.
