Alphonsus Connors, OFM

Fr. Alphonsus Connors, OFM, was born on April 20, 1916 in Buffalo, N.Y. He graduated from St. Joseph Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary in Paterson, N.J., in 1934. He professed temporary vows one year later, made his solemn profession in 1938, and was ordained in 1941.
His first assignment was to Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y., where he taught English and religion. Fr. Alphonsus then returned to Callicoon for three years as an English instructor before he was again stationed at Siena, where he remained for 21 years. He served as guardian of the friary there from 1961 to 1967.
Fr. Alphonsus also served at St. Anthony Shrine in Boston, Christ the King Seminary, East Aurora, N.Y., St. Bonaventure Parish, Allegany, N.Y., and St. Bonaventure University, Allegany, where he served as the purchasing agent.
He died on Nov. 10, 1992 in Buffalo General Hospital. Fr. Alphonsus was 76 years old, a professed friar for 57 years and a priest for 51 years. He was the younger brother of Fr. Canisius Connors.
