Aloysius O’Malley

1874 – 1932

Fr. Aloysius O’Malley, OFM, was born in Bottomstown, Ireland, on June 17, 1874. After teaching as a Franciscan Brother of Brooklyn, he entered the friars at St. Bonaventure College in Allegany, N.Y., on May 11, 1893.

He professed temporary vows May 12, 1894, and made his profession of solemn vows May 13, 1897. Fr. Aloysius was ordained a priest at St. Bonaventure’s May 27, 1899, and was a teacher at the College in Allegany for several years.

Later he went to the Catskills to teach in the seminary of the Immaculate Conception Province.

Fr. Aloysius died in Monroe, Ireland, on June 25, 1932. He was 58 years old, a professed friar for 38 years and a priest for 33 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
