Alban Sambrook

1887 – 1943

Fr. Alban Sambrook, OFM, was born on May 24, 1887 in Stoke-on-Trent, England. He attended St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary, Callicoon, N.Y., and entered the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1913, professing temporary vows one year later. Fr. Alban made his solemn profession in 1917 and was ordained in 1920.

He spent his priestly life ministering at parishes in Winsted, Conn., New York City, Denver and Paterson, where he was pastor. Fr. Alban also served at parishes in East Rutherford and Rochelle Park, N.Y., and the Bronx and Buffalo, N.Y.

He died on March 12, 1943 in St. Petersburg, Fla. Fr. Alban was 55 years old, a professed friar for 28 years and a priest for 22 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
