Alan Foran

1916 – 1981

Fr. Alan Foran, OFM, was born on April 29, 1916 in Roxbury, Mass. He entered St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, N.Y., and was received into the novitiate at St. Bonaventure Friary, Paterson, N.J., in 1939. He professed temporary vows in 1940, made his solemn profession in 1943 and was ordained in 1945.

He served in Mexico, where he was professor at the minor seminary in Jalisco and also served in two parishes. Fr. Alan returned to the United States in 1949 and served in ministries in Boston, Fair Lawn, N.J., and Winston-Salem and Statesville, N.C. He served as chaplain of St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla., and was pastor in Emporia and Anderson, S.C. Fr. Alan’s final years of ministry were spent at Our Lady’s Chapel in New Bedford, Mass.

He died there on Jan. 6, 1981. Fr. Alan was 64 years old, a professed friar for 40 years and a priest for 35 years.

Each of us should be called a lesser brother, a Friar Minor. Each one of us should wash the feet of the others.”
