LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. — Five of the 10 living Holy Name Province friars of the ordination class of 1960 gathered at Siena College on May 1 for a festive Eucharist and luncheon.

The participating friars — Julian Davies, OFM, and Capistran Hanlon, OFM, of St. Bernardine of Siena Friary; David Hyman, OFM, of Athens, Ga.; and Hugh Hines, OFM, and Benedict Taylor, OFM, of New York — concelebrated the 11:30 a.m. service with Provincial Minister John O’Connor, OFM. In his homily, John described what a Provincial does and developed a mirror theme, which “really resonated with the audience,” according to Julian.

Sierra Exif JPEGFifteen other friars participated in the Mass and nearly 100 family members and friends of the friars joined in the celebration.

“The day was beautiful, warm and sunny,” Julian said. “People gathered on the front steps before heading off to the luncheon in the Sarazen Center to a treat of meats and sweets.”

Siena director of music Marjorie Voytko provided music for the liturgy, assisted by cantor William Beaudin, OFM.

Several jubilarians who were unable to attend the Loudonville event will be celebrating locally. They are Bernardine Kessing, OFM, and Carmel Miotke, OFM, of Boston; Roy Gasnick, OFM, and Alexius Mulrenan, OFM, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Brian Flynn, OFM, of Ringwood, N.J.
