LAS CRUCES, N.M. — OFM friars in the United States are invited to the annual interprovincial retreat, scheduled for Jan. 6 to 10, 2014, at Holy Cross Retreat Center, less than an hour’s drive from El Paso, Texas. The event’s theme is “Dreams of Francis, Visions for Tomorrow.”

The five-day retreat will be led by two friars. Fr. Jack Clark Robinson, OFM, of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province, will speak about spiritual passages describing the distinction between dreams and visions. Fr. Jason Welle, OFM, of Assumption Province, will focus his talks on the visions, according to an informational flyer about the retreat.

Friars from all seven OFM provinces in the United States are invited to the retreat, which is sponsored by several provinces: Assumption, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Sacred Heart, and St. John the Baptist.

Through the years, these interprovincial retreats have featured a variety of themes and speakers. The 2013 retreat was led by Joseph Rozansky, OFM, director of the OFM Office for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, and the 2009 retreat was led by Michael Blastic, OFM, of Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y.

Information about the event is available from Br. Bruce Michalek, OFM, chair of the Interprovincial Retreat Committee. Br. Bruce, who can be reached at 505-980-9409, asks participants register by Dec. 21.

“For the past few years, the interprovincial retreat has enjoyed 100 percent participation of friars from every OFM province in the USA,” Br. Bruce said in a recent letter. “I am pleased to report also that friars from both of our Canadian provinces have occasionally attended as well.”
